World News Media Congress Draws Experts for Small and Mid-Sized Publishers

Are small and mid-sized publishers punching above their weight when it comes to the digital transformation of the news media industry? Experts attending the WAN-IFRA World News Media Congress in Washington coming up in June certainly think so.

The round table event, scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, 31 May, will feature case studies on diverse issues such as native advertising, using multi-platform content to gain loyal audiences and how small and mid- sized publishers can succeed in the digital age.

Speakers include:

Jim Brady, CEO of Spirited Media, which operates the news platform Billy Penn in Philadelphia.  Brady can be described as a digital first wizard, winning an Emmy and a Peabody award for his work at the and a Knight-Batten Award for Innovations in Journalism.  Brady has also won over 100 White House News Photographers video awards and will share his experience with multi-platform innovations with the Congress audience.

Chris Edwards, the Vice President of Sales & Marketing at The Gazette Company, will bring his extensive experience in the technology and communication fields to small and mid-sized publishers attending Congress.  Edwards has served Fortune 1000 manufacturers around the world, providing marketing analytics and will share his ideas and trade secrets at the round table.

J. Tom Shaw, the chief Digital Officer with Shaw Media, has experience in radio, television and print, and will bring his vast knowledge on all three together to inspire Congress delegates on how to maximise multi-platform content.

Nancy Lane, through her role as President of the Local Media Association, leads an annual Innovation Mission every year and travels with senior level executives to visit with the world's most disruptive technology and media companies including Buzzfeed, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. She is a sought-after speaker at media events in North America and Europe.  Lane has held publisher and senior level positions with daily and weekly newspapers in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Missouri.

Sponsored by ppi Media and supported by the Local Media Association, the session is specifically aimed at publishers, editors and media professionals from regional or mid-sized news organisations and is free to attend along with Congress.

"We are delighted to be sponsors of the World News Media Congress and can't wait to share the innovative and disruptive work going on in North America with small-to-mid-size publishers”, Nancy Lane said.

“Chris, Jim and Tom are visionaries in our industry and they will wow attendees with their approach to media transformation. We are also grateful to Ppi Media for their sponsorship of our roundtable. They are also on the cutting-edge with programs like their company-wide hackathon. This should be a great few days in Washington DC, well worth the investment of time and money."

More than 1,000 publishers, chief editors, managing directors, CEOs and other senior news publishing executives are expected to attend the World News Media Congress, the World Editors Forum, the World Advertising Forum and the World Media Policy Forum, the annual global meetings of the world's press.
