WAN-IFRA's first standardised printing certificate, in the South Asian region, was awarded to Wijeya Newspapers Ltd., Sri Lanka.

(From Left) Lisa Macleod, Head of Digital at Tiso Blackstar Group and Vice President of WAN-IFRA, and Janaka Rathnakumara, COO of Wijeya Newspapers Ltd.

After discussions with Janaka Rathnakumara, COO of the brand, the Wijeya Newspapers Ltd. (WNL) management agreed to the certification project in May 2018.

Project milestones were discussed and Rathnakumara created a separate team to run the project and achieve certification. The decision was a huge leap for the brand. Color correction, optimising the pre-press workflow and standardising materials was a tedious task for them, in addition to two on-site audits to ensure proper implementation of standards.

Post a successful audit, carried out by WAN-IFRA Research Engineer Prabhu Natrajan, the certificate was awarded to WNL during the WAN-IFRA 2019 Annual Conference in New Delhi on September 18 and 19.
