API is an educational non-advocacy nonprofit organization affiliated with the News Media Alliance, formerly the NAA, the Newspaper Association of America. It aims to help the news media, especially local publishers and newspaper media, advance in the digital age.
Some of its research relates directly to those in the youth and media space. Most recently, through its Media Insight Project, an initiative with the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, API published research about the latest generation of young adults, also known as Millennials.
In addition, API conducts interviews with thought leaders about latest strategies for connecting to the young. A "Good Questions" feature often examines strategies for connecting with the young, such as Clover, an email news service for teenagers.
Building on its history through NAA and the former NAA Foundation, API also provides many different resources that news organizations, educators, advisors, parents and students can use to better understand how news and media works.
