Abstract

World Press Trends has been published annually since 1989. The distinctive annual statistical compendium has long been a fixture in newspaper companies, investment houses, research organisations, and in the libraries of anyone who needs data about the global newspaper industry.

This year marks a new era for World Press Trends, with the launch of a new database to replace the 1,000-page print and PDF reports. The database includes the data found in the printed report, plus updates to reflect the growing importance of digital. It allows for custom report generation and printing, something long requested and something a static report cannot provide.

But while a database provides greater flexibility, there is still a need for a quick-reference traditional report – hence this new World Press Trends Report 2012, which contains the most requested data for the industry at large. The Summary report, provided in PDF form without charge to WAN-IFRA members and for sale to non-members, should provide sufficient information for most users. For those who wish more, full details about the World Press Trends database can be found at www.wan-ifra.org/wpt.
