WAN-IFRA, based in Frankfurt, Germany, with offices in Paris, Singapore, India and Mexico, is the global organisation of the world's newspapers and news publishers. Its core mission is to defend and promote press freedom, quality journalism and editorial integrity and the development of prosperous businesses.

The Global Advisory team at WAN-IFRA has spent the last 10 years delving into digital subscriptions – from selecting the right payment model, to machine learning and propensity to pay. Now we need to go even deeper – offering content, workshops and events that really move the dial.

We need a highly motivated, forward-thinking executive to take responsibility for our portfolio of subscription-related products.

Reporting to the department Director, working with our content department, and with guidance from our external Expert Advisors and the rest of the team, you will be absolutely focused on building and sharing knowledge on reader revenue and building a community of subscription experts.

Your tasks:

  • Develop the knowledge and contacts to become a go-to authority on digital subscription strategy for news publishers worldwide – from marketing to retention.
  • Develop related programming for our eRev Subscriptions group, Digital Media Europe, Congress and other events as required – including defining content, suggesting and inviting relevant speakers, moderating
  • Lead on developing new industry benchmarks on digital subscriptions
  • Develop and renew the reader revenue aspects of our MMA e-learning course
  • Build and moderate new communities of our digital savvy publisher execs
  • Author and contribute to regular reports and articles on reader revenue topics
  • Produce and support the creation of related marketing content

Your profile:

  • 3 years experience in digital subscriptions at a news publisher OR similar experience - e.g. media journalism, wider subscription industry
  • Project management skills & able to work to financial targets
  • Strong topic interest & understanding of current challenges in digital news
  • Proven ability to write clear English language content and marketing material.
  • High social media skills – including Twitter, LinkedIn
  • Digital native confident using CMS tools, collaborating via Google Docs, Hangouts or Skype, basic image editing, Google Analytics, etc.
  • Self-motivated and independent, excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable presenting on stage, social competency, team-working and enthusiasm
  • University Degree holder or similar; Business or Media degree advantageous
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Also fluency in at least one other European language will be very advantageous – German in particular

This is a full-time position on a two-year contract (potential for extension), based in Frankfurt, Germany but with frequent travel (up to 30%).
