Sakari Pitkänen

Senior Advisor, Prime Public Relations i Sverige AB, Sweden

Sakari Pitkänen began his career in publishing in the early 1980s. Following a ten-year stint at the major Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, he joined the commuter daily Metro in 1995. Pitkänen served as editor-in-chief from 1996 to 2006, helping the paper become one of Sweden’s most widely read and profitable newspaper properties.
Metro began its international expansion only a few years after the initial launch in Stockholm. Pitkänen had a hand in most of the notable launches during his tenure, including Metro in Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Chile and the Netherlands. He became the Global Editor of Metro International in 2006, and Vice President, Interactive at Metro headquarters in UK in 2008. Throughout his professional career, Pitkänen has studied and explored new financing models for the newspaper industry and sought to develop creative alternative to conventional publishing. In 2010, Pitkänen joined the award-winning, independent Swedish agency Prime PR as a senior consultant.
