After nine years with The New York Times, the current associate managing editor for digital strategy, Pilhofer, has been appointed as executive editor of digital at the Guardian.

Pilhofer will oversee new digital initiatives within the Guardian and further the digital transformation of their international newsrooms in his new role, which will start in June.

Editor-in-Chief Janine Gibson told the Guardian that Pilhofer “is a terrifically talented and visionary editor who clearly understands the future of digital journalism and we’re delighted he is joining our team.”

Both Pilhofer and Gibson are speaking at the Wold Editors Forum in Torino, Italy, in June.

Pilhofer will be speaking at the “Cutting edge digital storytelling,” which takes place on Wednesday, 11 June.

Gibson is part of the session on “National security, liberty, regulation and the role of the free press in the digital age,” which is set for Monday, 9 June.
