SESSION 1 - DIGITAL DESIGN
9.45-10.30: Challenges posed for creative design by adapting to the four main news platfroms — print, web, mobile and tablet
Designers in news organisations have had to adapt to the challenges of multiple platforms, from print to web, then mobile, and now tablets. Each of these media has its own characteristics, and each offers opportunuties and imposes constraints on the designer.
I will look at them in turn and examine how each one conditions the design process and the possiblities for creative expression of content.

10.30-11.10: The Paris Match app for the iPad: Bringing news to life at your fingertips
Paris Match on the iPad, the first French magazine app presented at the world opening of the Apple Store in the USA in April 2010.
Their challenge: not to change the magazine, but refine its special character, photographic legacy and storytelling skills.

Extending the printed newspaper to fully unpublished platforms, how is the Swiss newspaper group managing the move to digital?
Examples of various adopted graphic productions, with special focus on "the collection", the world’s 1st monothematic magazine dedicated to touch screen tablets. A unique or 3D visual experience, videos and photos refine the content.

Público is a young newspaper that uses graphics as part of its strong visual approach in communicating news. Rich information graphics, visual storytelling, complex process and net diagrams, and visualizations as integral parts of culture pages all comprise its infographic approach.
